Meaningful impact takes time and Mitaan has set a milestone for itself: to transform the lives of women fighting extreme poverty and social injustice. Turning Mitaan into a profitable and self-sustainable enterprise is vital in realizing this objective. The social enterprise started with making small self-help groups (SHGs), with just a handful of women from the Korba (a tribal district in Chhattisgarh) who make apparel using local crafts and techniques.

It was also important for us to be a sustainable and eco-friendly brand. We tried to follow the principles and recycling which gave us several new ideas on how to make the most sustainable clothing by using the raw materials available to us locally. We recycle water, use natural and azo-free dyes, thus helping our fellow farmers. We also plant trees for every handloom product that we sell, making our journey more environmentally friendly.
